Feb 16 “A History of Skiing in Flagstaff”
Jane Jackson, USFS/NPS
The first winter carnival on the Peaks was in 1939, but skiing in Flagstaff began long before that. Mars Hill, Townsend Ski-Way, Scissorbill Park - all these were places locals went to try out the newest winter sport, downhill skiing. Take a step back into time when skis were wood, rope tows were the newest excitement on the slopes and winter carnivals included events like egg novelty ski races and jumping exhibitions. Hear about the history of skiing in Flagstaff, the early days of Arizona Snowbowl, and the unique people who made it what has become today. A Flagstaff Winterfest Event.
