Free Concert at Tlaquepaque - “Southwestern folk” from Santa Cruz River Band Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Tlaquepaque, the “Art and Soul of Sedona”, is happy to announce an upcoming free afternoon concert for the entire family. The colorful history and authentic musical traditions of the Southwest and Mexico are joyfully brought to life by the popular international-touring group, Tucson-based, Santa Cruz River Band. It’s a not-to-be-missed event and takes place May 10, 1 to 4 PM at Tlaquepaque’s Patio Del Norte in Sedona.

The exceptionally versatile trio made up of vocalist-guitarist Ted Ramírez, vocalist-guitarist Michael J. Ronstadt (brother of Linda Rondstadt) and requinto-mandolin player Gilbert Brown have dubbed their music “Southwestern folk”. For more information, visit: www.tlaq.com or call 928-282-4838.

Historic Preservation Month to Focus on Places that Matter Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Sedona will join thousands of people around the country as part of a nationwide celebration of National Preservation Month in May 2008. “This Place Matters” is the theme of this year’s celebration, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Join us, on Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 am, for a walking tour of historic places in Uptown Sedona. One highlight of the tour will be seeing the only Local Historic Landmark in Uptown; “The Jordan Sales” building. The tour will begin in front of the Chamber Visitors Center on Forest Road. It will take about an hour, and is a free event. Walking shoes and a hat are recommended.

Then, on Friday, May 16 there will be an open house at the historic Hart Store, now Hummingbird House on Brewer Road from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The open house will celebrate the Hart Store being added to the National Register of Historic Places. Canyon Moon Premiere’s “Trying” Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Canyon Moon Theatre will debut the Arizona Premiere of the highly acclaimed show “Trying” by Joanna Glasson on April 24. There will only be six performances!

The emotional simplicity of “Trying” reveals the deeper heart of a working relationship between a young secretary and an eccentric old man. Starring Robert Bays as Judge Francis Biddle and Amzell Magaletti as Sarah Schorr, this comedy tells the story of a bittersweet friendship that emerges between two strangers at two dramatically different places in their lives.

Sedona Mago Retreat Center Begins Free Daily Tour Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Sedona residents and tourists can experience “Sedona’s Hidden Vortex” with a complimentary guided tour of Sedona Mago Retreat Center. It features a free shuttle van going between Uptown Sedona and the 160-acre Retreat Center in Coconino National Forest. Daily except Wednesday, the 12-seat van makes a round-trip once a day. On the five-hour tour is a seasoned guide. At the Retreat Center will be a walking tour, Longevity Walking instruction, and body-mind exercises. Guests enjoy a vegetarian buffet lunch for $10. The shuttle bus departs Sedona Story, 207 North Highway 89A, Uptown Sedona, at 9:30 am. It reaches the Retreat Center at 10:30 am, and returns to Sedona Story by 2:30 pm.
